Beware of Doxo Impersonating Payment Sites

One of our customers unknowingly paid their water bill through Doxo. WMCC found out when Doxo called today to verify our mailing address to send the payment.
According to the FTC, Doxo pretends to be an official payment site and “People who paid their bills through Doxo often paid fees to Doxo on top of what they owed on the bill they were trying to pay. And, in some cases, the payment never got to the company that issued the bill. People only found out when they got a warning letter from a bill collector or had their utility service shut off. Some people wound up paying late fees to the actual company that billed them — or paid their bill a second time, just to avoid other problems.”
We will research this issue. For now, though, confirming that the website address in the address bar on each web page is correct is important. On the WMCC homepage, the address should say “waldenmeadows.com.” Clicking on the How to Pay Bills tab should bring up the address “waldenmeadows.com/how-to-pay-bills.” Clicking the Pay Now button should result in “checkout.square.site/merchant/…….src=embed,” with various numbers and letters in the ……. area.
If any other addresses show up when you’re paying you water bill, please take screen shots and either FB message them to WMCC or email them to waldenmeadows@aol.com.
Companies such as Doxo are treacherous. Let’s do our best to avoid them.
